Saint Leo Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Saint Leo, Florida, with a rich history of faith, education, and monastic tradition dating back to its founding in 1889. In 1935, Abbot Francis Sadlier commissioned the construction of an abbey church, designed by Tampa architect Frank Parziole in the Romanesque style. The Church of the Holy Cross was consecrated on January 29, 1948, and later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 as part of the St. Leo Abbey Historic District.
University Ministry is deeply connected to the Abbey, holding all weekly services—including Mass, Adoration, and Confessions—within this sacred space (outside of Saint Scholastica). Students are invited to attend daily Mass Monday through Friday at 12 Noon, or the preferred 5 PM Evening Student Mass. Additionally, University Ministry hosts Sunday Mass at 7 PM, providing students a dedicated time for worship and spiritual renewal in the heart of Saint Leo’s Benedictine tradition.
Outside of Bellmont Abbey, Saint Leo University is the only University in the Southeast to have a functional monastery with actual monks and nuns on its campus.
